Sunil Danapala, also known as D.M.S. Ariyrathne, is an actor and storyteller from Sri Lanka.
To get a simple sense of who he is, you can read what he says about himself on his Facebook page: “I like to live happily with what I have and to make others happy.”
He is also a member of the International Storytelling Network, where he is described as a translator from English into Sinhala.
Sunil has worked on several books and has also published an anthology of his own poetry.
In 2006, he received the award for Best Translator at the State Literary Festival for his translation of Chinese author Jung Chang’s Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China.
Among the other works he has translated are Italian author Umberto Eco’s The Name of the Rose and Japanese author Yukio Mishima’s The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea.
